We all have favorites. Books that we keep going back to. Books that we keep re-reading. It's because these books never fail to amaze you even if you read it a thousand times. Sita’s Sister that kind of an ecstatic reading experience and the sheer number of times I’ve read this book stands testimony to my obsession with it.

A beautiful romance from the Hindu epic Ramayana, this is not a boring story of dharma or righteousness. From the view point of Urmila, the very spirited, vivacious, brave and wise Princess of Mithila, this is a totally fantabulous read. Without much of unnecessary details, the book gives a contemporary touch to the happenings of the past. The best part? You don’t need to be interested in the Ramayana to like the book.

The plot is pretty simple. The four princesses of Mithila marry the princes of Ayodhya/Kosala believing they are the luckiest girls on earth. But will their bond strengthen or weaken as a tussle to the royal throne takes place in their new home? And is Kaykeyi really the unscrupulous woman she seems to be? Or does she have some hidden motives?

With a simple use of language, a marvelous storyline and brilliant narration, Kavita Kané doesn’t fail to warm your heart with an incredible book. The use of extravagant adjectives in this review will obviously seem as an exaggeration but this book deserves so much more.

As an ardent lover of the contemporary mythology genre, I'd like to conclude that Sita's Sister is nothing short of a gem.

P.S. All other works of Kavita Kane are worth checking out as well
