*SPOILER ALERT* (If you haven't binged it a million times already)

I know I'm probably a hundred years too late to talk about this show but I started watching TV Shows only recently and I just watched The Office now. I'm not going to review this show because, to be honest, I need to re-watch to fully understand all the jokes and innuendos. So this is just a random collection of thoughts that I feel should be on this page.

Comedy was never a favourite genre of mine. But when it comes to TV Shows, the Sitcom genre has all the amazing and wholesome content. They are simply a source of comfort and always put a smile on your face.

Talking or rather writing about the The Office, I definitely had some preconceived notions about the show and the characters. My favourite TV Show before I watched The Office was B99 and I was telling some of my friends that it was the best show on Earth. But they told me that The Office is the best show on Earth. My first thought was obviously, "That's not possible!" How could any show be better than B99? Turns out Michael Schur aka Mose makes top quality TV Shows and I hadn't watched his previous ones.

Coming to the characters, Michael Scott jokes, read That's What She Said, were in my life way before Michael Scott himself. So I thought Michael was the cool boss we all wanted to work under and that he oozed class and sass. For some reason, I thought of Dwight as meek and someone who was constantly picked upon because he was a nerd. Jim seemed to be a popular kid, kind of a jock but not as mean. All I knew about Pam was that she featured in the They're The Same Picture meme and I had no knowledge of the other characters. As I surfed through the various season posters on Prime, it became evident that Michael left in season 7 and I remember thinking, "The show is not going to be great in the last two seasons."

With all these expectations running in my head, I finally sat down and watched the pilot episode about a month back. And I cringed. So I texted these 'die hard Office fans' friends of mine and asked them, "Is this really the best show on Earth?" They told me that all great TV Shows have horrible first episodes and that I should just be patient and enjoy the ride. I simply watched the show to prove that B99 was better than this.

Obviously, all of my notions were wrong. Michael in the first couple of seasons was extremely obnoxious, rude and inappropriate and I scrunched my nose in disapproval every time he made a weird remark. I was definitely not going to miss when he left, right? (Bad play of words, I know) I couldn't have been any more wrong about Dwight and Jim. Dwight cannot be bullied. Not now. Not ever. Jim is a character who is too good to be true and like everyone else, I loved watching John Krasinski play the part. But these opinions changed too.

I love the rom com genre and so the biggest change to me was PB&J. I really have to mention that as a strong shipper of PB&J, the first three seasons were extremely agonising. But the quality of humour got better and better as the show progressed and you got to see and understand the various sides of the leads. In the episode where Michael buys Pam's painting and frames it in the bullpen, I realised that he was literally an innocent and pure kid/teen trapped in 40 year old's body. That really made him a much more likeable character, in my opinion. I actually thought he was far too mean to Toby for quite a long time which is pretty ironic (I'll tell you why in a bit).

Apparently, my friends were right. You just have to be patient and enjoy the ride. The show as a whole is extremely enjoyable and I found myself binging it quite often though supposedly I didn't like it all that much. Honestly, I cried so much when Michael left the office to be with Holly that it surprised me. The fact that I cried about someone I disapproved of made me realise that The Office was indeed going to suck without Michael Gary Scott, a character who I obviously liked. Having just watched the finale, I really don't think there's enough Michael Scott in it.

The last two seasons weren't horrible per se but I just kept running the same scenarios in my head, thinking "What if Michael was still boss?" because there's no office without Michael Scott. Steve Carrell has done such a fantastic job in portraying the character and pretty much being the soul of such a well loved show. It's true that you don't realise the value of something until it's gone.

I vividly remember the moment that I fell in love with this sitcom. It was in the cold open of the episode where Toby comes back to the office, from Costa Rica, as the HR Rep because Holly has been transferred to Nashua. Michael goes to the annex thinking Jim was pranking him but sees Toby and screams, "No God! No God! Please. No! No! No! Nooooooooo!". Never fails to crack me up.

So thank you for the wonderful ride and for the laughs during these hard times. For letting me know that human beings have a miraculous gift of making any place home and for letting me have a home in Dunder Mifflin, Scranton PA. Last but not the least, for making me obsessed with Forever by Chris Brown. Also a huge shoutout to BBC for making a bad first version of The Office because if not for them, we wouldn't have had this.

"I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them."
