Cine music has always been an important part of pop culture in India. Bollywood being the biggest movie industry, naturally has a huge influence on the same. Though, off late, the standard of the music dished out has been below par, one can still sniff out the better songs by following one particular singer. So who is this fantastic singer who still manages to produce good music.
If you haven't guessed it yet, it is the one and only Arijit Singh - someone who has ruled the industry for the last ten years. He's not just my favourite singer but a favourite of millions across the country. This can be credited to a couple of things - his voice (obviously) and his range.
Surely, we all still jam to his first big hit, Tum Hi Ho. It is probably the romance song of our generation and his voice just seems to stir our soul. I'm very sure you're lying if you say you didn't listen to the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil album on loop when it first came out. Numbers like the title song and Channa Mereya will always be fan favourites as we lose ourselves in the magic of his vocals. Arijit Singh is renowned for his sad songs so Agar Tum Saath Ho and Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga definitely deserve a mention here.
But that's not everything he sings about. He has also lent his voice to many popular feel good songs such as Ik Vaari Aa, Mast Magan, Itni Si Baat Hai and so many more. The King of Romance just keep giving hits such as Raabta, Gerua, Manwa Laage, Samjhawan and Soch Na Sake. I mean, where would we be without the Kalank title track and the brilliant "Main Tera" chorus? I love the song Kuch Parbat Hilayein from the movie Poorna and highly recommend it if you need a dose of motivation. He also gave us the friendship anthem Tera Yaar Hoon Main. Talking about his range, I'm personally a huge fan of his peppy numbers like Dilliwali Girlfriend, Sooraj Dooba Hai Yaaron, Nashe Si Chadh Gayi and First Class. Another one of my favourites is Ilahi which is simply the embodiment of Ilahi. Whether he's singing for Illayaja or Pritam, in Hindi or in Tamil, for Shah Rukh Khan or Rajkumar Rao, Arijit Singh never fails to deliver.
So here's wishing one of the best singers Bollywood has ever produced, a very happy birthday.
"कुछ बात ग़लत भी हो जाए
कुछ देर ये दिल खो जाए
बेफिक्र धड़कने, इस तरह से चले
शोर गूंजे यहां से वहाँ
सूरज डूबा है यारों दो घूँट नशे के मारो
रस्ते भुला दो सारे घरबार के"
