This post is in honour of the ten year anniversary of One Direction, my favourite band. But I've not been a fan long enough to be able to write about them. So this is about fans and fangirling/fanboying.

The label I give myself when I talk about things I love from the bottom of my heart is "fangirl". My friends probably label me as "psycho". The word I'd use to describe myself is passionate. You might use words like loud, crazy, overenthusiastic and unnecessary. We can all talk about things or people we love for hours on end. When I do that, strange looks are directed towards me even if I were talking to someone who I thought had an equal interest in the topic. Not because I scream or squeal (maybe because of that) but more because I think I come off as obsessed. That moment when you realise that you are the only person who is excited about something and nobody wants to listen to you - that moment crushes you. In some cases, it make you feel unworthy. To those people who turn a deaf ear, stop shaming people for being passionate about what they love. Stop mocking them for liking whatever they want and expressing it however they want. Stop making them feel embarrassed for being "too much". You have no right to say that they have a bad taste. I'm not saying you can't have an opinion. I'm not saying you need to indulge them all the time. It definitely is annoying, especially when you're not interested in it. Let them down gently. Be honest and polite. But please, let them have their moments. Life is plain, boring and dull and these things and people that you "obsess" over are the only bright spots of colour.

I once read somewhere that being excited is a part of being happy. If something makes me happy, let me be. Maybe I like sappy rom coms. Maybe I prefer a novel over a TV show. Maybe I prefer a salad over a pizza. Maybe I do love dancing around my room blasting One Direction out of my speakers. I'm not forcing my opinion on you. Please don't force yours on me.

"Hey, its alright

If it makes you feel alive"
